Health for Humanity Service Society - Health for Humanity was incorporated as a non-profit society in 2002 with the broad purpose of improving health in Guatemala. In June 2009, a facilitated workshop for the H4H directors and invited members was held to review the H4H mission and goals. The following mission statement was agreed upon and captures the essential elements of our society:
‘H4H is a volunteer run, non-profit, low overhead, non-denominational, grassroots, community based and fiscally transparent organization that provides health services, health promotion and prevention to vulnerable populations in developing countries'.

Furthermore the following basic principles for future H4H projects were decided. All projects must:

  • fit within the frameworks of the Determinants of Health and the Millennium Development Goals
  • incorporate gender equity
  • be locally indentified
  • be capacity building
  • be potentially sustainable

Health for Humanity sends multidisciplinary teams of volunteer health care professionals to Guatemala and the Philippines to provide surgery, health education and other health related services.

Health for Humanity works with local NGOs in Guatemala to support various other health care initiatives. These include:

  • Vamos Adalante
  • Proyecto Payaso
  • Campanero De Salud

Donations are used

  • to pay for hospital costs, medical equipment, medications and operating room supplies related to the surgical missions. All volunteers pay for their own travel and accommodation.
  • to support our partner organizations in Guatemala in providing health related programs and educational programs to vulnerable populations. Currently these include the provision of water filtration devices and efficient/safe wood burning stoves, food programs for malnourished children and scholarships to ensure children are able to attend and stay in school.

Health for Humanity is volunteer run. We have no paid staff and minimal administrative costs.
